An inspiring line-up of footballers impacted by life-threatening heart conditions have joined forces to urge more than a quarter of a million people to learn life-saving CPR.

Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer joined former international stars Graeme Souness, David Ginola and Glenn Hoddle to unveil a ground-breaking new campaign – 'Every Minute Matters' – at Wembley Stadium.

Organised by Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation (BHF), 'Every Minute Matters' aims to recruit 270,000 people – the equivalent of three Wembley's – to learn life-saving CPR over the next 12 months.

Sky Bet has also pledged to donate up to £3 million to support the vital work of Britain's biggest heart charity, starting with £10,000 for every goal scored during normal and extra time during the Sky Bet Play-Offs – which begin this Friday and end with three showpiece finals at England's national stadium later this month.

Souness, Ginola, Hoddle and Lockyer are part of the 'Re-Starting 11' – a one-off team including Fabrice Muamba, Derby County defender Megan Tinsley and Wigan Athletic striker Charlie Wyke – who will share their own stories and give Brits the skills to tackle the ultimate medical emergency.

The 'Re-Starting 11' also features football fans who have either survived a cardiac arrest or saved someone's life.

Souness, who was diagnosed with coronary heart disease in his early 30s, said: 'CPR saves lives – and you only have to look at our Re-Starting 11 to see that. It's a privilege to join a team of inspiring people, many who are only here today thanks to CPR, as we stand with Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation to call on the nation to take action.

'Every day, more than 80 people will suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK – and that's why we need more people to learn CPR through RevivR.

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle (R) was saved by sound engineer Simon Daniels' (L) quick thinking when he suffered a cardiac arrest in October 2018 (Picture: EMM)

'Together we can equip thousands more fans with the knowledge and confidence to perform these lifesaving skills, because in the crucial moments following a cardiac arrest every minute really does matter.'

Lockyer, who collapsed during last year's Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final and survived a cardiac arrest in December, added: 'I was lucky that in the moment when my heart stopped, those nearby knew the skills to save my life.

'Without the prompt actions of the medical staff who gave me CPR and defibrillation, I simply wouldn't be here today – and I'm forever grateful for that.

'That's why I'm joining the Re-Starting 11 as we call for more football fans to learn CPR. If every fan in every club took 15 minutes to learn CPR with RevivR, it could help save thousands of lives.'

David Ginola is amongst those seeking to teach the nation CPR (Picture: EMM)

There are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year, equating to at least five every 90 minutes. Each minute that passes without CPR reduces the chance of survival by up to 10 per cent.

And tragically, less than one in ten people survive often because those around them lack the skills or confidence to perform CPR.

To kick-start the campaign to tackle the problem, Sky Bet and BHF will this month harness the platform and drama of the Sky Bet Play-Offs to unite football fans and the wider British public behind one clear goal – saving lives.

Every Minute Matters will urge everyone to take just 15 minutes – the length of the half-time interval – to learn CPR with RevivR, the BHF's free and easy to use digital tool that can teach anyone how to save a life in 15 minutes.

The simple course requires no medical experience and can be completed with just a mobile phone and a cushion to practise on. After completing the training, 97% of users feel confident enough to give CPR and use a defibrillator.

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, Chief Executive at British Heart Foundation (BHF), said: 'Millions have watched as players and fans have suffered devastating cardiac arrests in football stadiums – cardiac arrests really can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time.

‌'Every Minute Matters will equip thousands of fans with lifesaving CPR skills, giving them the confidence to step in during the ultimate medical emergency. It will also improve access to defibrillators in communities across England, and fund millions of pounds of groundbreaking research into new treatments and cures for heart conditions.

‌'With the support of legends from the world of football who have been affected by devastating heart conditions, this ambitious partnership will undoubtedly save lives.'

The Every Minute Matters activity in May is just the start of a year-long campaign. Throughout the summer and the 2024/25 season, Sky Bet and the BHF will work together on raising awareness and in tackling specific issues to help in the fight against SCA.

The four officers killed have been identified as US Marshals Deputy Thomas Weeks Jr, Special Operations and Intelligence Unit Officer Samuel 'Sam' Poloche, Special Operations and Intelligence Unit Officer William 'Alden' Elliott and Charlotte Mecklenburg police Officer Joshua Eyer (left to right) (Pictures: AP/Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department/North Carolina Department of Adult Correction)

Four police officers were killed in a three-hour standoff at a home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Gunfire erupted as law enforcement officers served an arrest warrant at the barricaded home on the 5000 block of Galway Drive around 1.30pm on Monday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

An armed suspect opened fire and shot four cops with the police department, including one who died of the injuries.

Four more officers from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force were also shot – three of them fatally.

It is one of the deadliest attacks on American law enforcement officers in recent years.

'As officers approached, the male subject discharged his firearm striking multiple officers. These officers requested immediate response from other officers,' stated the police department. 'As officers responded, the gunfire continued, striking additional officers.'

The suspect fled the home with a firearm and officers shot him in the front yard, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Terry Clark Hughes Jr, 39, who was wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as well as two counts of fleeing to elude.

Cops proceeded to start negotiating with two other individuals inside the home and then carried out a siege with armored vehicles. Two women who exited the property were taken in for questioning.

The officers were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Officer Joshua Eyer, who served the force for six years, died after hours at a hospital. He was a husband and father of a three-year-old son.

'He fought for several hours and passed away from his injuries with his wife and family by his side tonight,' wrote police Chief Johnny Jennings on X (formerly Twitter).

'I am truly grateful for his bravery, service and ultimate sacrifice. He will never be forgotten, and we are forever indebted.'

Two of the task force members who were pronounced dead at a hospital were Alden Elliott and Sam Poloche, who worked for the state's Department of Adult Correction for 14 years. Poloche was a husband and father-of-two, and Elliot was married and had a child.

'They loved their work and were passionate about their roles in protecting our communities,' stated the US Marshals Service. 'These officers died as heroes and made the ultimate sacrifice in their service to our state.'

US Marshals Deputy Thomas Weeks Jr, 48, of Mooresville, who was killed in the shooting, had served for 13 years and was a husband and father-of-four.

President Joe Biden said the officers were 'heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm's way to protect us'.

'We mourn for them and their loved ones,' stated Biden. 'And we pray for the recoveries of the courageous officers who were wounded.'

The discovery was truly shocking (Picture: TikTok/@classashley)

A little girl made a horrifying discovery in her bedroom wall which is truly the stuff of nightmares.

Mum Ashley Class had been trying to help her daughter sleep, as the little girl kept complaining of hearing 'monsters' moving around in her walls.

But as the noise persisted, she investigated with a thermal imaging camera which revealed a huge swarm of bees living in her walls.

Swarms of bees spilled out as a hole was cut into the wall, revealing a massive bee colony thought to be made up of about 50,000 of the insects, as well as huge swathes of honeycomb.

Sharing the journey of discovering and removing the bee colony on TikTok, Ashley described the find as 'what nightmares are made of'.

Describing the first day of removal, she said: 'Day 1: Beekeeper removed 20,000 bees and 45kg of honeycomb from the wall.

'He found the queen and is able to safely take the hive to a new home.'

Usually, when a queen is found and taken from a hive, the rest of the bees follow in order to protect her, meaning this is the key part of removing bees from somewhere they don't belong.

Another 20,000 bees were removed from the walls on the second day, and explaining why she and her family didn't notice the bees before, she explained: 'It only takes a couple of bees and a swarm that you might not be able to see to become a colony of 50,000 bees.

'The beekeeper didn't know how many bees were inside the wall when he decided to open it up, even when the thermal imaging showed there was a lot of activity.

'He had greatly underestimated, but it's not his fault as it's not usual that bees bury downwards.

'They had got into a dime sized hole in our chimney, and there's an old clay pipe where it used to heat all the different rooms 100 years ago, and they got into it and buried down next to my daughter's room.'

In total the beekeeper has removed more than 45kg of honeycomb from the walls – and it had to be 'triple bagged' in order to remove it due to the sheer weight of the wax and honey.

But the family's insect woes didn't end there, as they later found a second colony with even more bees hidden inside the walls.

Once all of the bees were removed, Ashley's home was left dripping with honey – a truly bizarre sight.

And to make matters worse, her insurance company said they wouldn't cover the damages.

Kaylan died in hospital days after the crash (Picture: Wales News Service)

A drunk hit-and-run driver ran over a 13-year-old boy then returned to the scene and tried to stop people helping him.

Harley Whiteman, 19, asked a student nurse desperately performing CPR on stricken Kaylan Hippsley: 'Why the f*** don't you all just leave him and stop doing that?'

The schoolboy suffered catastrophic injuries after being hit at up to 60mph by the Ford Fiesta and thrown 40ft into the road in the village of Hirwaun, South Wales, on February 29.

He never regained consciousness despite the efforts of bystanders and paramedics and sadly died in hospital days later.

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard Kaylan had been standing outside a Co-Op store with some friends when the tragedy unfolded.

The boys spotted the Fiesta travelling at speed, with some putting it at between 40mph and 60mph.

A Citroen car was heading towards Whiteman as the road narrowed due to parked cars, but he tried to squeeze through the gap instead of giving way, the court heard.

He lost control of the wheel and ended up mounting the pavement, ploughing into Kaylan.

Following the collision, Whiteman didn't stop and continued driving erratically at speed, narrowly avoiding a further collision with another car.

Whiteman looped around and drove past the scene before speeding off when a witness tried to take his photo after recognising him as the driver who had caused the carnage.

After going home to drop off his two passengers he went back to the scene for a second time where he started arguing with the pedestrians tending to Kaylan.

Harley Whiteman was jailed for more than six years (Picture: South Wales Police)

The court heard he tried to stop a student nurse who was performing CPR, saying: 'Do you think I give a f*** about this kid on the floor?

'Why the f*** don't you all just leave him and stop doing that.'

Whiteman argued with a man who asked him about his car and offered to fight another, all as the youngster lay fatally injured.

He then had to be restrained when police arrived and callously remarked: 'It was a f***ing good show.'

The driver refused to take a breath test, but the court heard he later told a probation worker he had taken a line of cocaine and drunk four pints of lager before the crash.

Whiteman, of Hirwaun, later pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen.

Jailing him for six years and nine months, Judge Jeremy Jenkins said: '[Kaylan] was killed by your flagrant and callous disregard for the rules of the road and others around you.

'His injuries were described as unsurvivable. At the scene your behaviour was abhorrent and heartless, and when arrested you were aggressive, unruly, and unrepentant.'

Kaylan died in hospital on March 3.

The Aberdare Community School was a keen football and rugby player whose family remembered him as a 'cheeky chappie' who was 'polite, creative and lovely'.

In a victim personal statement read to the court, Kaylan's sister Olivia said: 'There are no words I can put to properly describe the sheer horror caused to me and my family and writing this down caused unimaginable pain.

'Every time I tried, I was completely overwhelmed. No real justice can be served today. Harley Whiteman has taken something from our family that can never be given back.'

She went on: 'Kaylan was not killed in a tragic accident, it wasn't until someone took him from us, someone was to blame and is responsible which makes it so much worse.'

Turning to Whiteman she added: 'That person is you. You killed my 13-year-old brother who had his whole life ahead of him in the most dangerous situation, driving whilst under the influence with passengers in the car.

'You have shown no remorse. You ruined far more than one life and as a result you deserve to face the consequences for that.'

Whiteman was also disqualified from driving for eight years and four months.

FORTNITE has made a controversial change that has many players angry.

The change has hidden certain emotes that players have spent real money on to buy.

Billie Eilish will headline Festival Fortnite this season[/caption]

Laugh It Up, Take the L, Whipcrack, and Make It Plantain are all emotes that players could purchase from the Item Shop and the new change makes them feel useless.

Fortnite has labelled these emotes 'confrontational', and the latest update turns them off by default.

If you go into your settings, you will see that the emotes are only available "From Friends In Party", meaning you'll only see them if you're friends with the player who uses them.

Otherwise, the character performing the emote will just be standing still in order to hide the emote from you.

This is funny in its own way, as you know they are doing one of the four emotes, but you're not sure which.

This change is meant to reduce toxic behaviour in the playerbase, as people can use these emotes to taunt others.

However, some people still see the fun in it, so you might want to turn the emotes back on for your play.

If you want to turn the emotes back on, you first need to enter the settings and go to 'Account and Privacy'.

From here, you will see an option titled 'See Confrontational Emotes' and you can choose the level of visibility you want.

You can turn them off completely, or choose 'From Anyone' to ensure that you always see them.

Don't worry if you change your mind in the future, as you can change this setting at any time.

THE Mega Man Zero games were a pivotal part of our childhoods, and few things have come close to its joy save Azure Striker Gunvolt.

Zero is popular among fans for its quick and chaotic combat, making battles more calculated, and Beserk Boy adds a lot of new features, too.

Berserk Boy Games
Berserk Boy uses slick movement to remind us of the best parts of Mega Man[/caption]

The gameplay is the main draw here, and while the story is serviceable, you'll find yourself mashing through multiple text boxes to get to the combat.

Mega Man-style games' main draws are smooth movement and interesting combat, and they both hit the mark here.

Berserk Boy's dash allows him to bash into enemies at high speed, letting him avoid damage and quickly move through obstacles.

It also includes a wall jump, which, when combined with the dash, creates very satisfying movement.

There are also different elemental Berserk Orbs with various effects, and switching between them feels very intuitive.

The movement can also help with the combat, though dashing back and forth through enemies can be a bit repetitive.

There aren't as many tools available to expand your arsenal throughout the game as we would have liked.

Despite this we loved the level design, though the later levels suffer from repetition.

Every stage reminds us of the diversity of the 2D Sonic games, and blends well with the dash-heavy movement.

In terms of the look, Berserk Boy hits all the right spots with gorgeous pixel art and animations that work well with Sonic Mania composer Tee Lopes' fantastic songs.

Berserk Boy isn't the Mega Man Zero game we all want, but it does capture the vibes incredibly well.

Above all, it nails the fast, fluid movement of your favourite 2D platformers, which makes it definitely worth playing.

SUIKODEN is one of the best JRPG series, but it had its heyday back when the PS One was king.

Eiyuden Chronicle is the spiritual successor to the Suikoden series and it almost lives up to its incredible legacy.

Eiyuden Chronicle is perfect for old-school gamers[/caption]

More than anything, Eiyuden Chronicle is a tribute to the fans, and a new entry to the series in everything but name.

It offers a fresh take on the Suikoden games, while offering everything that gave the classics such a huge fanbase.

You're a young commoner that is given the task of building a resistance farce to fight against an imperial army with crooked nobles.

As the name Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes suggests, you can recruit up to 100 people to take part in turn-based battles.

These come in three types: your traditional combat, duels, and wars. It also has other traditional Suikoden features like base-building, minigames and a virtual economy.

You might have 100 people in your army, but you can only take up to six characters in traditional battles, though large allies will take up more than one slot.

This means you can make good synergies within your team by adding heroes who buff, heal and deal physical or magical damage.

Every character has their use, and you'll find that missing a piece of the puzzle will significantly reduce your chances of success.

Then you need to consider who sits in the front or back row based on how much damage they take and deal, and it adds a further tactical layer.

Some won't like the way Eiyuden Chronicle approaches random encounters, where even basic fights can be a grind.

However, you can auto-battle these and save your strength for the gruelling boss fights.

The focus – as with all Suikoden games – is on building your base and your army, and this is where it shines.

You collect resources as you travel, and different partners will use specific skills to build up your base.

Wars play out like most strategy games where you build small units to take on the opposing army.

Then it switches things up again by introducing one-on-one duels for specific conflicts and rivalries.

The strength of having this huge amount of characters is that there are dozens of compelling ones, so everyone can find a favourite.

The minigames aren't as compelling as you'll remember from games like Suikoden 2, and the war battles are relatively simple when you have the strength in numbers.

Fans of Suikoden will certainly enjoy Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes as a worthy successor, but it may be a little inaccessible to modern players.
