MYSTERIOUS fossilized bone fragments discovered throughout Europe have baffled scientists for years.
A new research suggests all the ancient bones belonged to at least one terrifying species.


Researchers from the University of Bonn re-analyzed the bones found in regions throughout Western and Central Europe because the 19th Century.
They now assume the fossils come from the decrease jaw of an enormous historic sea creature referred to as an ichthyosaur.
Ichthyosaurs lived across the similar time because the dinosaurs and have been giant ocean predators.
Fossil proof suggests they lived from round 250 million years in the past and died out about 90 million years in the past.
It's thought they weighed as much as 80 tonnes and grew over 65 ft lengthy.
That's over twice the dimensions of a killer whale but the historic beasts might have hunted identical to the fashionable species.
The creatures are greatest recognized for their giant mouths with large spikey tooth.
Scientists have now revealed their new ichthyosaur findings within the journal PeerJ.
"Very giant unidentified elongate and rounded fossil bone segments of uncertain origin recovered from totally different Rhaetian (Late Triassic) fossil localities throughout Europe have been puzzling the paleontological group because the second half of the 19th century," the researchers wrote.
They defined how totally different hypotheses for what the bones might be have been given through the years however no conclusion was made.

Researchers Marcello Perillo and Professor Martin Sander in contrast the mysterious bones to different ichthyosaur remains.
"Bones of comparable species usually have an analogous structure," Sander stated.
"Osteohistology—the evaluation of bone tissue—can thus be used to attract conclusions concerning the animal group from which the discover originates."
